The Mummy

The Mummy is the latest Halloween Horror from Nick's workshop, built for 2004. It was a roaring success, literally!

To get the maximum scream index, the Mummy was set in the shadows behind bushes next to the steps up to our door, and was triggered by a motion sensor when the kids were just a couple of feet away... when it came to life, it was floodlight from below, the Mummy would come to life with a terrifying moan and reach out for the kids.

One of the reasons I chose a mummy was the traditionally simple movement of the arms (up and down), allowing me to animate the head and the arms with just two servo motors. The arms use the giant scale Hitec 805BB for lots of torque, the head one of Ziggy's spares, a Hitec 705BB. It runs off an OOPic, like all my other robots.

Costuming was simply coffee-stained brown material cut into strips, wrapped around a dirtied and stained t-shirt, with a mask I bought on eBay.
