Ziggy is an autonomous, sonar-guided hexapod (six-legged) robot. The robot is built around an OOPic II micro-controller which acts as the robot 'brain'. Ziggy comes with a control program written in Java syntax over 2000 lines long containing such advanced behaviors as sonar obstace avoidance, dancing and territory marking (lifting a leg!). In addition, the software contains the following modes: standard alternating tripod gait, offroad, maze-following, sprint, alternate wave gait, full demo and tabletop demo modes, and dance.
Ziggy is custom-machined out of aircraft aluminum which accounts for his sturdiness, good looks but also the cost. I am currently working with machinists to lower the per-unit cost below $2495 so if you are interested in purchasing a robot please contact me for an update on actual costs. One advantage of building from aluminum is that the robot can be anodized in the color of your choice. In addition, the leg hinges are proprietary brass/stainless/nylon hinges for extended durability. Purchase also include unlimited email support on all mechanical and programming aspects of Ziggy, at no additional charge.
